Title:  ITA Software and Orbitz: Lisp in the Online Travel World

Abstract: ITA Software is a 50-person company based in Cambridge, MA and the creator
of the world's most advanced airfare shopping search engine, primarily
written in Common Lisp.  ITA licenses this technology to airlines and to
other companies in the travel industry.

In June 2001, the leading U.S. airlines launched Orbitz, an online travel
website, using ITA's search engine for domestic travel.  This talk will
present an overview of the ITA search engine, concentrating on the system's
architecture, technical hurdles which had to be addressed, input/output
interfaces, and other issues relating to Lisp and its deployment in a
real-time, high volume commercial application.
